Project Overview
G. Greene’s Civil Division undertook significant upgrades to the electrical infrastructure to enhance system reliability. The project included the construction of a new substation, the expansion and reconstruction of three existing substations, and the installation of over 1,000 feet of new 115kV duct banks, all contributing to a more robust and efficient power delivery system.
The project involves the establishment of the new Sharon switching station and enhancements to three existing stations: West Walpole, Holbrook, and Walpole. Key construction elements include necessary wetland replication and the development of a transition structure foundation that shifts from overhead to underground, along with an underground transmission duct bank extending from the transition structure into the new Sharon station and Holbrook.
Solutions
To effectively manage the electrical infrastructure upgrade, the effort was phased into four stages, ensuring that work was sequenced to maintain the functionality of the existing substations. Additionally, a custom-fabricated stone veneer substation screen wall was created to enhance neighborhood appearances while maintaining extremely sensitive relationships with neighbors throughout the project. Throughout the work, strict adherence to environmental sensitivity requirements was maintained to ensure compliance with all regulations.
